Letting Go of Extremes: Balance Over Perfection
Balance isn’t a destination. It’s a daily practice of showing up for yourself with kindness.
The older I get, the more I realize that wellness isn’t about extremes. It’s just the opposite. It’s about balance.
There was a time when I thought being “healthy” meant pushing harder. It meant working out more, following strict routines, and sticking to limited diets. In the past, when I didn’t do that, I would go the other way. I would skip workouts, eat whatever I wanted, and feel frustrated that I couldn’t find a middle ground. Over time, I learned that constantly swinging between extremes only leaves you feeling more drained than fulfilled. (There was a time when I honestly thought “I Go to Extremes” by Billy Joel was my theme song - seriously.)
But wellness isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what matters. It’s a daily practice, one that changes and evolves with the seasons of our lives. It’s about so much more than workouts and nutrition. True wellness comes from the small, intentional choices that support balance. It doesn’t come from rigid routines or strict rules.
Going to extremes doesn’t work. It’s not sustainable, and it doesn’t lead to the kind of change that becomes part of who we are. When we swing between all-or-nothing, we miss the steady rhythm that comes from consistency and the quiet confidence that builds when we care for ourselves in realistic and kind ways.
Balance isn’t a destination. It’s part of our journey. Some days, that might mean a solid workout. Other days, it’s moving our bodies to feel good for an emotional and mental lift. Other times, it’s about just resting. The magic lies in honoring what your body and mind truly need, without guilt and without comparison.
Change doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen when we show up for ourselves with intention and grace. I love that word - grace. It’s about showing yourself kindness and patience even when you don’t get it “right”. The more we let go of extremes, the more space we create for lasting habits and a version of health that truly feels like home.
Here’s to building a healthy foundation that supports your life, not the other way around. Thanks for reading 💛 I hope this reminder helps you find your own version of balance today 🌿
